The House Republican Conference called for the White House to immediately call President Donald Trump a traitor for his refusal to accept an invitation from Sen. Lindsey Graham to address the United Nations General Assembly, saying he should be removed from office.
The bipartisan House GOP conference issued a statement Friday saying “it is time for the president to take the blame for his actions and the obstruction of justice.”
“This is a time for action and not a time to be coddled,” the statement said.
“We call on the president and his team to immediately rescind this invitation and to work with our colleagues in the House and Senate to remove President Trump from office.”
The GOP statement called on the House to pass a resolution calling on Trump to resign immediately and called on lawmakers to convene an impeachment vote.
The White House, which has not officially said whether it will host the meeting, said it has invited Graham to speak at the United Nation General Assembly.
